Richard Avedon – Fashion Photography Pioneer

“And if a day goes by without my doing something related to photography, it’s as though i’ve neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up. I know that the accident of my being a photographer has made my life possible”

-Richard Avedon, 1970

Richard Avedon was most influential from 1944-2004 for his expertice in fashion photography. I have always admired Avedons works and the way he was able to capture fashion and style that was pertinent to its era.

This photo was taken in 1967. I love how long her legs are and their positioning. There’s something very intriguing about her and how the photograph instills a sense of awkward beauty.

As an admirer of fashion photography, I find this next photo to truly exemplify the high fashion world. It was taken in Paris in 1955 and today this kind of fashion photography would be much more common, but in those days the use of circus animals for a fashion campaign was seen as extremely daring and avant-garde.

Both Photographs can be found in Avedons book “Avedon Fashion 1944-2004″ along with many other works of his that are truly exceptional.
